Alder Bastion - Wooden Soap Dish
Inspired by the ramparts that once lined a castle's outer walls, the Alder Bastion brings that same fortified, purposeful style to your sink. Handcrafted from sustainably grown and harvested alder lumber, right here in the USA.
Why you actually need one
This is the single most useful thing you can buy alongside handmade soap, and it's the one most people skip.
Handmade bars don't contain the hardeners that mass-produced supermarket soap does — that's exactly why they feel better on your skin, and exactly why they dissolve when left sitting in water. A bar abandoned in a puddle on the edge of the tub can vanish in a couple of weeks. The same bar kept dry between uses will last far longer.
The Bastion's angled channels and minimal surface contact lift the bar clear of standing water so it dries fully. The raised design also lets air move underneath, which stops water pooling and keeps the dish itself from warping or going moldy.
Who it's for
Anyone buying handmade soap. If you've ever had a bar turn to mush, this is the fix — and it pays for itself in bars you don't have to replace.
The details
- Size: 3" W x 4" L x 0.75" thick
- Material: sustainably sourced alder lumber
- Handcrafted by a trusted maker in the USA
- Works especially well with handmade and triple-milled bars
- Fits all our 3.5 oz bars comfortably
Caring for the dish
Rinse it under warm water occasionally and let it air dry — that's genuinely all it needs. Don't put it in the dishwasher and don't leave it submerged. Kept out of standing water, a wooden dish like this lasts for years. If the wood ever looks dry, a wipe of mineral oil will bring it back.
Pairs well with
Any bar in the range — but especially Warden's Brew if it's going by a kitchen sink, or the Gelatinous Cube, which is a soft glycerin bar and needs the drainage more than most.
